Real Madrid are putting their pursuit of Neymar Jr, 26, on hold for twelve months, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Brazil international is set to twist the knife into Barcelona’s hearts by leaving Paris St-Germain for the Bernabeu, but not until 2019 when Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to leave the Spanish capital. At that point, the Portuguese will be 35 and heading to Miami in the MSL.

Having played in Lionel Messi’s shadow at the Camp Nou, the mercurial winger isn’t prepared to play second fiddle to Ronaldo at Madrid. His stated aim is to become recognised as the best player in the world, but he is rapidly realising that Ligue Un is not the league in which he will achieve that aim.

However, he believes that his chances of winning the Balon d’Or are improved by playing in Paris yet is not entirely satisfied with his career.

Neymar is reportedly unwilling to move in a World Cup year although Real Madrid’s 3 – 1 win over Les Parisians in the Champions League Round of Sixteen may persuade him that the dreams of the French club as far as Europe’s top trophy can never be realised.

It’s claimed that the Brazilian finds life in Paris dull compared to the Mediterranean climate of Barcelona and is preparing his departure from the French capital already.
