United Close In On Morata

Alvaro Morata is set to become Manchester United‘s marquee signing this summer with United prepared to meet Real Madrid‘s £65m valuation, according to The Mirror.

The Spanish international’s career stalled at the Bernabeu when he returned to Real after a successful spell at Juventus. He was expected to be sold on last summer but the Spanish champions surprised everyone by retaining Morata’s services.

United are desperate to strengthen their front line following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. While Marcus Rashford has potential, Jose Mourinho wants more experience as the Red Devils prepare their assault on the Champions League.

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, whose information is usually well-sourced, claimed Morata’s agent, Juanma Lopez, met with the Madrid hierarchy yesterday to resolve his client’s fate. Real president, Florentino Perez, was previously reluctant to sell the homegrown star but last seasons Champions League triumph appears to have changed his mind.

Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of Morata’s aerial ability, which offers something United don’t possess at the moment. With Anthony Martial failing to impress despite the hype surrounding him, the Portuguese knows he needs to find a consistent goalscorer if he is to return the club to the glory days supporters crave.

While negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, a swfit resolution is expected as United prepare for their US tour.
