Napoli star forward Dries Mertens has not entertained talks of a possible contract extension once his deal with the Partenopei side comes to an end this season. And with that in mind, all signs point towards him leaving the club once the 2019-20 campaign comes to a close.

A player like Mertens is someone most European teams would be happy to sign. He remains capable of performing at the top level, and he is only 32 so he still has a few years left to compete in a competitive environment. However, the Belgium international wants to play in a more relaxed league. And he has already chosen two potential destinations.

According to several reports, Mertens could move to either the Chinese Super League or the MLS for the 2020-21 season. Several top players have chose to move in that direction in recent years, and Mertens could increase a long list of top players featuring in lesser known environments.

For instance, players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Vela are regular names in the MLS. Meanwhile, elements such as Oscar, Salomon Rondon and Yannick Carrasco feature in the Chinese Super League on a weekly basis. Needless to say, Mertens would be incredible addition for either league if he decides to part ways with the Serie A giants at the end of the current term.
