Monaco are now in the running for Sporting CP defensive midfielder William Carvalho, according to a report from A Bola.
After weeks of speculation that the 25-year-old was set to join West Ham United, the defending Ligue 1 champions are planning to hijack Carvalho from the English club.
West Ham‘s inability to get a better bargain from Sporting, as the Portuguese club is asking for €40 million for Carvalho, has opened the door for Monaco to lure him to France.
However, the Portuguese international’s move would be contingent on whether or not Fabinho agrees to a move out of the Stade Louis II.
As is stands, Fabinho has gathered interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain and Les Rouges et Blancs are planning their contingency plan should he exit the club.
The move would be a direct replacement for Fabinho as both him and his Portuguese counterpart are excellent defensive midfielders that have been tested at the international level.
Carvalho has spent the majority of his career playing for Sporting Lisbon, dressing up in the green and white for close to six years.
In his tenure with the club, he has made 155 total appearances and managed to score 10 goals for Os Leões.
